I can only agree with the obit that Chip was a one-of-a-kind guy, a unique individual that we all enjoyed.  Condolences to his family from an old friend.

So very sorry to hear that our friend Chip has passed. When several of us were organizing the 2005 reunion (held in Las Vegas). I phoned Chip and he said this has to be a voice from the past bc no one calls me Chip anymore. He was gracious and he and Catherine joined us at the reunion. Condolence to his family and friends. RIP

It saddened me to hear of Chip's passing. He was always kind in high school. Seeing him & Kathy at our 40th reunion in LAS, was great, then again on one of my Vegas trips. As he got grayer & letting his hair get longer in a ponytail, he related a story of always being mistaken for George Carlin. He would be asked for autographs & pictures, he would go along with it. When Carlin passed, he said, "well there goes my side gig". He was if course sorry of Carlin's passing. Who knew Chip to us would become Dr Vollmer Franz (not medical) to others.
My sincere condolences to his family,
