Paula Hickey was a locker mate freshman year and a driver's ed mate junior.  Wow, she was a fun and great friend.  Sorry to lose her.

It's such an awful thing to hear of the passing of people I haven't seen for ages and of whom my memory is way back in time. And indeed, it is that memory which remains and is so vivid. It has been comforting to read of the positive contributions classmates have made to society, information that tickles the memories.  And hearing that they have left us can in no way diminish that feeling nor make us forget them.  So they're still around, aren't they?

This is true of Paula and of so many others. And it helps to think young.

I am very sad about Paula's death. She and I were friends in high school and since we both lived in Houston we would get together for lunch and to "catch up" occasionally. She had her second child at age 40 and we laughed when she said she had to hold him at arms length to see to clean his ears.  As we each age we can relate to the early aging process. It is hard to lose so many we cared so deeply for. Oh my . . .
