Mike and I were great friends in high school - Dave Carman, Michael and I assaulted adulthood togther in many ways. Cross country and track in school - his TR3, countless trips to the Indiana Dunes, our surfing and James Bond fantasies gave us direction. Those blue TLC sweatshirts that caused such a fuss our Senior year. Not always positive, but the experiences still bring a smile to my face. When Rebel joined our little group, we felt invincible! As we left for college Mike's parents invited me to join them in Jamacia one Christmas. Jamacia, the pivotal site for James Bond, and yet the reality was very different - international to be sure, we took on some adventures I would never ever do again, yet I won't trade them either. It was my first major international trip [besides Canada] and it opened a new world to me. The biology is not something Mike and I shared, but yet I never would have known any of it in the tropics had he not invited me and been my friend.
Hearing of his death, took much of the 20th year reunion away from me that night. I recently spoke with his mother and I think of him often!
His insights into to sports journalism were serious and became his career. I wish I would kept up more, but our time at Rich East was magical!
A couple of years ago we traveled to Hawaii and on the north shore of Oahu is a beach, Banzai Pipeline, known for its huge waves. In our many surfing fantasies Michael and I talked about going to Hawaii! So when i got there, I went out on the rainy beach and wrote Mike's name in the sand. Then watched the remnants of those monster waves wash it away. I felt sad! HMMMM Michael!

We used to play hide-and-seek in our cars senior year in Park Forest neighborhoods, with our car lights turned off. Mom never knew.
